Lessons far exceed just doing good things for your body – Larry Young

I joined Dahn Yoga in August of 2004 in order to experience Tai Chi, Yoga, and to get some exercise.

My experience with the lessons far exceeds just doing good things for my body. My mind has awakened more and I am much more aware of my Spirit; and, believe me, I have spent a lot of time in my life trying to increase my spiritual awareness. The Dahn method integrates all three such that I really don’t have to work at it. It just happens.

My physical well being certainly has improved. I am considerably more flexible, my reach in all directions has improved, my eye-hand coordination is much improved and my reflexes are like lightning. My improved physical condition has affected my whole life. Everything I do is easier and more graceful. Even dropping something goes better. I usually catch it before it hits anything and often notice it just before it starts to fall and is doesn’t drop it at all. I am reaching new levels in my pool game and I know that my golf game is much better even if I haven’t tested it lately. I can just feel it.

Dahn Yoga consists of the basic Yoga/Tai Chi lessons as well as special classes which focus on different aspects of our selves. I attend all of them that I am eligible for as soon as they become available. I can’t seem to get enough of it fast enough.

My Spirit is smiling at me for the first time in a long time and it is my purpose to give it every reason to do so from now on.

Healing her whole family – Karen Zuehlke

My husband first introduced me to the Dahn Yoga Tai Chi Center. He started going to the center for the exercise and stretching. He quickly realized that there were many more benefits to this program and wanted me to join. I had two small children at home and a part time job at the time and was reluctant to join because I felt I did not have time and I did not want to be away from my kids. After becoming a member I realized that I needed to make time for myself and that the time spent away from my family growing myself was a very positive thing for me and my children and husband. After taking the advanced workshops and shim sung, I discovered how powerful (and difficult at times!) quieting my mind and connecting with my body can be. Now my husband and I go to the center 3 to 4 times a week. Dahn yoga has been wonderful for our relationship, our parenting skills, and for our growth. We feel like we have joined a big family with a common goal of health, happiness and peace.

Already more flexible after two months – Amy Christiansen

My name is Amy Christiansen and I have been a member of the Lakewood, Colorado Dahn Yoga center for just two and a half months. I have always suffered from inflexibility in my back and hamstrings, and after attending class and doing the prescribed stretching exercises at home I am already much more flexible, and more comfortable (going from being able to touch my upper shins to now being able to touch my toes!). But far beyond the stretching and flexibility, I have gained a sense of calm and joy in my life that I have not felt in a long time. The practice of daily meditation, whether it be a moving type, such as tai chi, or a sitting type, in conjunction with the time spent focusing on my body and learning to focus on my own energy and its patterns and circulation has settled my mind and my emotions. I also used to suffer almost monthly from intense multi-day headaches, which have now greatly reduced in severity, frequency, and duration. And finally, my enjoyment of the classes and the warmth of the instructors and other members create a tremendously positive atmosphere here that brightens my day every time I attend class, which undoubtedly also contributes a great deal to my increased sense of health and well-being.

Recovery from two major back surgeries – Iris

Several years ago I had two back surgeries within 6 months of each other. After the last surgery I was still suffering intense pain and had very limited mobility. The anti-depressant and pain medications that I was taking gave me no relief. As a last resort I decided to join my local Dahn Yoga center. Within three months time I was able to stop taking my daily medications and I began to regain some flexibility. During the course of the year the improvement in my body condition was remarkable and is still steadily improving. At the same time that my physical body was improving, my mental condition improved as well. I now feel very healthy, happy, and in harmony with myself as well as those around me. Thanks to the mind-body healing practice that I learned in Dahn Yoga, my life has changed physically, emotionally, and spiritually in unbelievable ways. I now have the energy and the confidence to move forward with my life’s journey.

Genetic blood deficiency – Beth Sentell

I move this testmonial from www.Dahyoga.com to share the benifit of  Dahnyoga training

I have a genetic blood deficiency, which has caused damage to my lungs, similar to emphysema. The treatment for this disease is to receive weekly blood plasma infusions. I had been taking those treatments for the past five years. In addition to the treatments, I have taken several exercise classes as well as working out at a gym several days a week.

I started Dahn yoga classes in January 05. I did some walking as well as working out on my elliptical machine about a half hour to one hour daily.

By March I was feeling stronger and decided to stop taking the plasma treatments. With clearance from my doctor, I had the part removed and discontinued treatments as of April 2005.

Now in June, I’m continuing Dahn yoga and exercise thirty to sixty minutes daily. I feel as well as when I took the weekly infusion treatments, (if not better).

Alive With Hopes and Dreams – Diana Kuhlke

Now, Master KeumOri nim is in Naperville center

One year and nine months ago on September 19th, 2003 I flew into Ashland, Oregon from Fort Collins Colorado, to attend the Healing Chakra Festival with Grand Master Lee.
The day before I was homeless, finally divorced from a very abusive marriage and left behind a life filled with tragedy, drugs, severe depression and hopelessness, Bipolar disorder and Borderline personality Disorder. Physically I was a wreck. I had acid reflux(severe), physical hernia(surgical level), carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease etc and I could go on. Little did I know, yet many thanks to my twin sister Jeanette and her open heart that brought me to the Festival for that was where my life began to change. Master KumOri gave me a personalized program and diet which I followed to the best of my ability (I was far from perfect). I began to see some change even within a month. Master has all loved me supported me guided me and give me a family of strength to lean on and grow from. By the way, my mother could tell, even over the telephone, how much I had grown. That at 83years old she became a member in Littleton, Colorado.
The exercise program is incredible. The muscles no longer hang on my body. I have tone and strength. I use to cry anytime I would talk with anyone. Now I can stand in front of a group and speak and lead warm up exercises. I am off of 5 of my medications and doing well. It has been nearly 2 years and I am clean from drugs with no desires to, nor thoughts to use. I have hopes and dreams in my life and someday will be a supporter for others to grow their lives as well. I’ve gone to Healer’s school and workshops. All of it helped. I wanted my life to change and I have applied it. I feel anyone can and it made changes in my whole family just because I’ve changed.
Getting away from the drugs and the abuse didn’t fix everything I still had depression and a broken body and it didn’t give me a life worth living. But building my life around a healthy program with alive people and a vision that matched the one I had as a child gave me my hope and dreams back. Happily I am now a lifetime member. Many thanks to my fellow members we all are a family and grow together.

Dahn Yoga helps where nothing else does. – Bridget Ross

I move this testmonial from www.Dahyoga.com to share the benifit of Dahnyoga training

For 15 years, pain and fatigue have been part of my daily life. I tried medications, hatha yoga, tai chi, transcendental meditation and many alternative therapies to alleviate my symptoms. On 6-22-05, after finding a brochure on my driveway, I visited the Dahn Center near my home. Master Lee said he could help me.

The exercises seemed strange and the focus on energy in and around us was foreign. However, the members and instructors were friendly and helpful. When I felt electricity in my fingers during the energy sensitivity training in my first class, I knew this was different than anything I had tried.

For the past 5 months, I’ve attended classes every day and done homework. I start each day with bowing and affirmations. My body, attitude and life are changing. Currently, I take no medicine. It seems as though the training works from the inside out. As a Gold Member, I am committed to becoming healthier, happier and more peaceful. With the Dahn center, I believe I am on the right path and I am grateful for the guidance.

Healthy Hair-Naturally

Healthy Hair-Naturally
Fostering fabulous follicles
By Banya Lim, L.Ac.

We tease it, tangle it, tug it and twist it. Then we perm it, color it and straighten it. From hair spray and blow dryers to chlorine and curlers, our manes undergo a brutal assault, often losing their former glow and glory.

Crash dieting, long illnesses and even childbirth can make it become brittle and eventually fall out.

Staying healthy remains the best insurance policy to avoid tresses in distress. Balanced diet, proper rest, exercise and even acupressure will condition your hair better than any product on the market.

Diet for beautiful hair
Magnificent manes spring from a diet rich in nutrients. If your locks are limp and lifeless, add more protein such as eggs, lean meat and fish, beans and seeds, whole grains and low-fat dairy or soy products.

Vitamins and essential fatty acids can restore luster to dull hair. Good sources include green leafy vegetables, brewer’s yeast, berries, apples and citrus fruits. Biotin is considered the most potent vitamin for promoting hair health and preventing gray. Wheat bran, eggs and liver offer the highest levels.

Hair also thrives on essential minerals such as iodine, sulfur, zinc and silica. Add these to your diet with seafood, sunflower seeds, alfalfa, dandelion greens, garlic, kale, spirulina, oysters, pumpkin seeds and wheat grass. Borage, evening primrose and flaxseed oils all contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help keep hair supple and shiny.

Sweet dreams
Stress can destroy the beauty of your hair and accelerates hair loss when combined with sleep deprivation. Besides recharging your body, sleep provides a wonderful hair tonic. Beautiful hair and restful repose are just one drop away from botanical bliss with the use of aromatherapy. Transform an ordinary shampoo into a relaxing herbal experience by mixing in several drops of essential oil, such as lavender, jojoba and ylang-ylang, to nourish your hair. Massaging the scalp is an effective way to combat tension headaches and insomnia, thereby guaranteeing a good night’s sleep while adding more body and bounce to the hair.

Hi-ho silver away!
Herbs can help restore color and vitality to the hair shaft. He Shou Wu, an anti-aging herb used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, revitalizes the hair while diminishing gray. For more information and to purchase online, log onto

Beneficial pressure
Acupressure stimulates lymphatic drainage, eliminates toxins and relieves stress, which all add up to a healthier head of hair. You can perform acupressure two to three times a day as part of your daily grooming routine while conditioning your hair.

There are three key acupressure points that boost hair health, one on the top of the head and two below it. Apply firm pressure on each point for five counts, then release.

Even if you do not know the exact spots, many of the points surrounding them are beneficial for the hair.

Baldness: not just for men
Your head contains 120,000 hairs and loses 50 to 200 of them daily. If that amount starts increasing, it could indicate a nutritional or hormonal imbalance or the onset of baldness.

To combat severe hair loss, combine one tablespoon of finely grated ginger with one tablespoon of sesame or jojoba oil. Massage into the scalp and leave on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for maximum benefit. Shampoo and rinse out with tepid water.

Inner beauty
Hair products, styling and overprocessing can deplete vital bonds in the hair. But, perhaps, the true secret to beautiful hair lies within. Listen to your body and you will know exactly what it needs. In addition to regular trims, quieting the mind through meditation is sometimes the best hair conditioner of all.

Good habits make all good for your body.

Who’s your Boss?

Habits wear neural pathways through your brain—shortcuts between thoughts and action.
This is why after practice you can play a song on an instrument without thinking through each movement. It is also why you find yourself standing in line at a Starbucks the morning after you have

decided to give up coffee or at the low ebb of the day, grabbing for the candy bar instead of going out for a walk. Habit can efficiently take over in less than a second, sometimes leaving you bewildered and wondering who is really in charge.

Changing habits is a natural challenge of growth but you can make it easier by understanding and taking control of your brain processes. Most of us have a magical relationship with our brains. We know its there. We know it does all this cool stuff but we are unsure exactly what is happening in all that gray matter. It’s like “I just had a thought” and that is the end of it. The first step is to be aware if you want to make some changes. This is not just about thinking and noticing; it is about how the brain feels especially when you are active. If you are not aware of what is happening in your body, then no real changes take place in your brain. Ask yourself, “What is the relationship between my body and my brain?” When you are active, how does your brain feel and where in your brain do you feel it? This will give you a better understanding of when you go on automatic pilot.

Next it is important to make your brain flexible. Although we cannot directly exercise the brain, we can exercise parts of our body that affect the brain. We can also challenge our habits and stretch our brain. One way to do this is to switch hands when writing or eating. Being balanced as you walk, helps to activate both sides of the brain not just the predominate one.

Then releasing emotions related to your activities. How many times have you stopped yourself from doing something because you don’t like it? How do you know that in this very moment you don’t like it? Letting go and being in the moment is an important step to changing habits.

Now you are ready to take some conscious action and make choices based on what you want now and not on what you have experienced in the past.

BRAIN EXERCISES Doing new things stretches your brain.
Try the following exercise to wake up and stretch your brain.

Raise one hand in front of your chest.
With your index finger, draw a square in the air.
Now raise your other hand and draw a triangle in the air.
Try it with both hands now.
Draw a square with one hand and
a triangle with the other.

Body and Mind Coordination exercises are a good way to improve the brain function, too.

Water Up, Fire Down

Su-Seung-hwa-gang means “Water Up, Fire Down”. This is the core principle for human health. When the body is in balance, the cool water energy travels upward toward the head along the back side of the body, while the hot fire energy flows down the front side of the body to the lower abdomen. This is the complete cycle of energy circulation. By repeating this circulation, life maintains its balance and continuity.
