Bow Meditation / Sincerity Meditation

“Bowing is one of the most humble and spiritual acts a human can perform.  It is an action that simultaneously signifies acceptance and a deep understanding of and feeling toward its object.  Through bowing, we accept, understand, and feel our soul.  Moreover, through this action, we cast aside the narrow confines of the self and accept the energy of the universe.”

“I call bow meditation “sincerity” meditation,” because we awaken to the nature of sincerity in the process of bowing.  This meditation involves motions through which we become one with the universe.  We are connected with the energy of Heaven when we spread our arms.  We are connected with the energy of the earth when we bend at the waist and lay our upper bodies on the floor.”   (“Human Technology,” Ilchi Lee, pg. 115)

As we progress forward in our studies within the BEST 5 Programs, it is interesting to observe the responses of members as they encounter bow meditation for the first time.  There is usually the need for some explanation about the meaning of the actions, and it can take awhile for members to embrace the action with sincerity.  As the member achieves the 103 or more point in the bow training with some regularity of Dahn Yoga practice, we can notice a change in their attitude about the process itself, as they begin to see a glimmer of their authentic self.  This is the True Self who understands that we are all in this together, rather than being in life only for ourselves.  It is heartwarming to hear the most resistant members at the beginning of the bow meditation speak about their desire to add this training to each day during the early morning or late evening, as they convey the humble joy in their hearts activated through the practice of the meditation.

So what exactly is the bow meditation teaching us?  What are we in the processing of cleaning?  Ilchi Lee is teaching us that the surest way to living a life of wisdom in action is to erase the ego.  Ego is a main problem.  What we really need to express is self-surrender, and surrender is what is required to open our hearts and connect to our souls.  By living with humility and sincerity, we are unable to feel superior to anyone else, regardless of education, social level, race, religion, or family background.  So, what we are cleaning through the action of bow mediation is our ego.  When we are living from our heart and soul, feeling everyone else’s heart and soul too, is when we are able to live actively in the world without selfish motive.  It is only then that we are able to live a sincere and humble life in active service to humanity.  Thank you, Ilchi Lee, for giving out this Principle to us!

Youthful Walking

Youthfull WalkingHow to walk youthfully in Sedona
(Jangsaeng Walking Method)

In all our tours in Sedona, you will learn and practice this new method of youthful walking.
Do you want your health to last as long as your life? For Americans the average life span is 75 years old, but the average total number of healthy years of life is only 67. We hear that regular exercise is important for health and well being, but we are not doing it enough. Few people realize how powerful walking is as a way to stay active.

Scientific evidence has documented that regular walking can prevent or even reverse many diseases. Walking can lower blood pressure, increase bone density, and even expand the volume of brain tissue. Walking can help promote weight loss, prevent diabetes or reduce its severity, lower cholesterol, moderate anxiety and depression, decrease colon and breast cancer risk, and relieve knee arthritis pain. Walking in a natural setting connects one to Nature, thereby reducing stress and heightening self-reflection.

Now coming to the United States is the subtle-yet-powerful Jangsaeng Walking Method. (Jangsaeng is the Korean word for Longevity.) While this walking method is a new form, it has deep roots in Eastern traditional health practices and is informed by Western medical findings.

Jangsaeng Walking Method is a highly beneficial way of walking, whether around the house or around the neighborhood. It is a human technology that involves a greater awareness of body angle, pelvic tilt, breath, and other body mechanics. In particular, one should walk with a firm sense of the weight distributing to the balls and toes of the foot. According to Oriental Medicine, this area contains the yong-chon acupressure point, which is the start of the meridian (energy channel) for the kidney. Kidney health relates to the speed and intensity of the aging process. Jangsaeng Walking Method helps to strengthen calf muscles, which puts gentle pressure on the yong-chon point. In Oriental health theory, flowing kidney energy contributes to keeping us young and healthy. Furthermore, Jangsaeng Walking Method activates the power of your mind’s awareness, which has an enormous influence on the body and brain.

Here are nine guidelines for this amazing Jangsaeng Walking Methods:

  1. Yong-ChonTilt the lower part of your pelvis forward.
  2. Breathe with your lower abdomen.
  3. Let your heel tap the ground gently as you step forward, with a straight leg.
  4. Feel your weight transfer fully to the balls (yong-chon) and toes of your foot.
  5. Keep your feet parallel, walking on either side of an imaginary line.
  6. Angle your body 1 degree forward.
  7. Relax your shoulders,
  8. Swing your arms freely.
  9. Smile!

What a difference a year makes!–shed over 70 pounds – Karen

(I moved this testimonial from Dahnyoga.com to here to share the benefit of dahnyoga )

Last June I was unhappy, physically weak, and obese. I had been putting barriers around myself for years to keep the world at a distance. The added weight had weakened my body and was eating away at my emotional wellbeing. The increase in my size caused my balance to change. This caused some injuries to my knee and shoulder. I was harming myself. I knew I needed to change. Dahn Yoga has given me the tools to change myself and it’s up to me to make these changes.

During the past year, I have gained a strong, fit body, shed over 70 pounds, have lots of energy, gained confidence, concentrate better, and have come emotional strong. The program which was pivotal in these changes for me was Shim Sung. Each workshop and program I have attended has benefited me physically, emotionally and spiritually. So much is gained from each program. Through support from the Masters, members, attending regular classes, and training; I’ve been through a wonderful transformation!

One of the best bonuses is that I have found myself. Buried deep within me is this person who I always was. I’m so happy and grateful that I have discovered her! I’m having so much fun!
