Dissertation: Yoga encourages attachment between individuals

One of Dahn Yoga's benefits, as well as the benefits of yoga more generally, is that the practice allows members to relate to one another on a more holistic and spiritual level. In a recent dissertation, a researcher from Adelphi University ascertained as much in a survey of hundreds of yogis.

Susanne Danish, of the school's Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies, addressed the mental and spiritual attachments associated with the ancient practice of yoga. She found that one of the personal benefits of yoga appears to be that practitioners have a closer connection to what they perceive to be the mystical qualities of life on Earth.

Likewise, Danish used a well-being scale taken from the national survey of Midlife Development in the U.S. to assess yoga's effect on emotional, psychological, social and spiritual attachment. She found that individuals who practice yoga often feel an attachment related to social and emotional well-being.

"Yoga… does appear to be fulfilling a positive psychological role impacting spiritual, social and emotional psychological health," she concluded.

With its deep breathing and calming meditation, the practice of Dahn Yoga can benefit a weary body as well as world-weary mind and spirit.
