While many people find enlightenment through yoga meditation and religious means, those with bolder spirits may achieve it by seeking out adventure and feeling the adrenaline pump through their bodies. Mountain climbing is a great activity for these types of travelers, particularly in Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian destination is well known for its gorgeous landscape and has many famous peaks. One of the most popular attractions is Sugar Loaf Mountain, a unique natural wonder that boasts an atypical shape reflecting the sugar bricks made by agricultural workers of the past.

The simple way to reach the summit is via cable car, but to get the most out of the experience, at least part of the ascent should be done on foot. The result is well worth the hard work, as the peak offers an extraordinary vantage point for seeing Zona Sul and across the Guanabara Bay to Niteroi.

Corcovado is another famous point that offers a fantastic view of the bay. There are a number of hiking trails for varying experience levels, as well as the Cristo Redentor, a towering statue devoted to Christ the Redeemer.
