Travelers headed to Indonesia on their next vacation should consider a trip to the Tirtha Empul Temple, a Hindu place of worship that dates back to the 10th century.
The Warmadewa dynasty constructed this beautiful aquatic temple in the year 926. It sits atop a natural spring that is said to have been created by Indra, the Hindu god, to help cure his army after they were afflicted with an illness brought on by a malicious king.
Many people visit the temple for the same reason, as Hindus believe the water will help to purify themselves. When visiting, it is not uncommon to see others swimming in the spring and praying for it to cure them of their troubles.
After exploring Tirtha Empul, tourists should consider checking out the larga villa located nearby. The modern residence once housed President Sukarno during his stays in the 1950s and is still known as a luxurious place for important guests.
