WHAT IS DAHNMUDO?

DahnMuDo is an energy-based, non-combative, healing martial art, with roots dating back thousands of years into Korean history. In Korean, “Dahn” means energy. “Mu” means “martial,” or “limitless” and “Do (Tao)” means, “the way,” or, “the ultimate truth.DahnMuDo is therefore also known as “The Art of Being Limitless. Its mind-body training methods combine martial arts movements with universal energy principles to help practitioners circulate blood and energy through the body, and recover the natural balance and rhythm of the body and mind. Its goal lies in training the body and mind to become one.
How is DahnMuDo Different From Other Martial Arts?
While similar to other Asian practices such as QiGong, in terms of circulating energy throughout the body, a senior trainer at the DahnMuDo Headquarters, Master Kang, explains, “This is a very different kind of martial art.” Rather than focusing on the external environment, i.e. one’s opponent, or on technical, difficult techniques as with Qigong, DahnMuDo encourages participants to focus inside, to develop their own internal energy and power. Therefore, anyone can enjoy it, from age 8 to age 88. DahnMuDo focuses on the 18 major joints of the body, adjusting the hip joints, pelvis and spine. Correcting the physiological structure of the body allows fresh, oxygenated blood to circulate properly to all joints and internal organs, improving one’s overall health and sense of well-being. As a result, DahnMuDo practice can be extremely beneficial for those with weak or stiff joints, those who want to improve their balance or lose weight and those who simply want to feel more comfortable in their bodies without some of the physical contact elements found in Qigong.
One Posture Can Change Your Life Every posture in DahnMuDo has a practical application to the every day life of the practitioner that can help them achieve their personal goals. For example, ‘One Foot Upright Stance’ stimulates left-right brain activity. This can be particularly effective for those who have to remember or study a lot. ‘One Line Stance’ creates a very prompt response in the brain and quickly stimulates mind-body communication. This posture can dramatically improve the brain’s response time.He adds, “Your boss will be impressed with your quick thinking!Similarly, the other postures and practices of DahnMuDo training have underlying benefits that will ultimately improve a person’s productivity, effectiveness and confidence. “DahnMuDo is actually leadership training,” says Kang. While many students have previously practiced QiGong and other styles of yoga or martial arts, DahnMuDo students are noticing significant changes in their physical body conditions shortly after beginning DahnMuDo training. According to Anjanita Mahadoo, a practitioner from Garden Grove, California, who recently completed DahnMuDo Instructor training in Sedona, Arizona,
“My spine is straightening and my posture is improving. Most of my back pains are gone. I can do more with my body than I ever thought I was capable of doing.” And another recent graduate of DahnMuDo Instructor training, Leanne Garn, age 60, shares, “Thanks to DahnMuDo, I have been able to sleep through the night for the first time in 40 years, and the pain from my carpal tunnel syndrome has disappeared.”
More Than Just Physical Training
DahnMuDo’s benefits extend beyond physical and practical, traditionally asocciated with Qigong. Dahnmudo allows members to experience deep meditation, and often, through self-reflection, achieve personal transformation. Kang adds, “As you continue practicing DahnMuDo, you will find yourself absorbed in very deep consciousness, very deep peace within. You will naturally begin to wonder how you can apply this to your every day life. DahnMuDo is a bridge between feeling a sense of deep spirituality and the manifestation of outer, social success in your life.
Another senior trainer, Master Jang, explains such a transformation, “Before beginning DahnMuDo training, I practiced various other forms of martial arts for 14 years. After starting DahnMuDo, my point of view shifted from how I can be better at fighting with an opponent to how I can heal others, and help them feel the energy of the cosmos, the principles of balance and unity in their bodies.
